The Golden Cane Warrior

Cempaka, Christine Hakim, is a renowned silat master known as the Golden Cane Warrior. She trains four disciples—Biru, Gerhana, Dara, and Angin—each one a child of enemies she has defeated. As her health wanes, she designates Dara as her successor, but before passing on her ultimate technique, she is ambushed by Biru and Gerhana who crave the Golden Cane for themselves. In a fierce confrontation, Cempaka fights to the death, buying precious time for Dara and Angin to escape.

Biru, Reza Rahadian, and Gerhana, Tara Basro, relentlessly pursue Dara and Angin. The pair tumble from a cliff during a brutal clash, only to be saved by a mysterious man named Elang, Nicholas Saputra. Acting on their need to master Cempaka’s tradition, Dara and Angin decide to seek out Cempaka’s former partner—the White Dragon Warrior—who might teach Dara the ultimate technique of the Golden Cane. Yet Elang unsettles their hopes, insisting they are not yet ready for that knowledge. Complicating matters, the Red Wing Warriors are misled into believing Dara and Angin caused Cempaka’s death, and Angin is captured. In a desperate move, Dara trades the Golden Cane to Biru and Gerhana for Angin’s release, but the deal is broken and Angin dies heroically while saving Dara.

Biru and Gerhana seize control of the Red Wing Warriors by poisoning their leader, mirroring the treachery they once showed Cempaka. Dara infiltrates their compound in a bid to avenge Angin and Cempaka, but Elang steps in, convinced she is not yet ready to confront them. He admits a long-held hesitation about helping, bound by honor not to meddle with Cempaka. The truth about his lineage—he is the son of Cempaka and the White Dragon Warrior, now dead—emerges, leaving Elang as the sole keeper of the ultimate technique. The two-warrior method can only be performed by two partners, and Dara realizes that Angin was meant to train alongside her. Defying his father’s promise and the High Council’s guidance, Elang agrees to take Dara as his disciple.

Meanwhile, Biru and Gerhana transform the Red Wing Warriors into the Golden Cane Warriors, deepening their power and, in a bid for permanence, become lovers.

Some time later, Dara and Elang infiltrate the enemy’s compound. When a peaceful surrender is denied, the pair press their fight against Biru and Gerhana. Dara pauses at the sight of Gerhana’s daughter, choosing not to traumatize the child; a calculated shift allows Gerhana to strike from the shadows, but Dara defeats her and Gerhana falls. Biru roars with fury and charges, but a pivotal blow sends him tumbling; Dara seizes the Golden Cane, and Biru slams a tree trunk at them in a last-ditch effort. The couple then execute the ultimate technique with the Cane, a single, decisive blow that ends Biru’s life.

Dara and Elang share a quiet, mutual kiss and embrace, acknowledging their feelings. Yet, in the morning light, Elang departs to face a punishment from the High Council for breaking his promise. Dara returns to Cempaka’s old barn and continues the tradition by teaching martial arts to Gerhana’s daughter, ensuring the legacy of the Golden Cane Warrior endures.
