A shared love of fish sparks a tangled romance in Doris Dörrie’s off‑beat comedy. German koi‑exporters Otto (Christian Ulmen) and Leo (Simon Verhoeven) meet fashion‑design student Ida (Alexandra Maria Lara) on a Japan trip. Ida falls for rumpled Otto, becomes pregnant, and they marry. Back in Germany she launches koi‑patterned scarves, but her presence strains Otto and Leo’s partnership, prompting Leo to start a rival koi farm with his new wife Yoko (Young‑Shin Kim).
