As the saxophone melodies floated through his reclusive life, Mel, a middle-aged musician, found himself standing at a critical juncture. His only companion, Daphne, his loyal goldfish, bore witness to his deep-seated struggles. Feeling aimless, Mel ventured into a series of brief encounters, leading to fleeting one-night stands, until he met the captivating Inga. Their connection was intense yet ephemeral, prompting Mel to sublet her apartment for a month to Ginger, a British biologist with an intriguing obsession—researching the mating habits of female frogs.
As Mel explored this new chapter with Inga, he became enamored with another striking woman, Diana, who was poised to marry a yogurt mogul. The excitement of her engagement ceremony ignited something profound in Mel, making him feel as though she was the realization of his deepest dreams. Yet, Mel’s narrative with Inga unfolded like those before her, leading him back to her door where he had to negotiate with Ginger for access to the apartment once again.
An unseen force seemed to push Mel in search of Diana, whose memory drifted in his mind like a haunting melody he couldn’t shake. He was determined enough to land a job as an elevator attendant in Diana’s condominium complex, which led him to neglect his responsibilities as a saxophonist. As he immersed himself in the life of this seemingly overlooked woman and her spouse, Mel gradually discovered that his genuine feelings lay with Ginger, whose scientific endeavors involving Daphne had forged an unexpected connection between them.
In this intricate dance of love and self-discovery, Mel’s affections swayed between Inga, Diana, and the enigmatic Ginger. As he struggled to align his desires, he navigated the complexities of love in a world that seemed increasingly confusing.
