In early‑1990s Denmark a recession leaves 300,000 jobless. Viggo, a stoic machinist and union advocate, conceals his feelings while his wife Oda pursues genealogy. After being laid off he sidetracks—ignoring work, planting a garden, and beginning an affair with Karen, an unhappy widow. A deceitful Mallorca trip ends the affair, lands him in a psychiatric ward, and forces him to confront what truly matters.
