Struggle for the Matterhorn (German: Der Kampf ums Matterhorn) is a 1928 silent drama directed by Mario Bonnard and Nunzio Malasomma, starring Luis Trenker, Marcella Albani and Alexandra Schmitt. Part of the 1920s‑30s mountain‑film wave, art direction by Heinrich Richter. Based on Carl Haensel’s novel, it shows British and Italian climbers racing to be the first on the Matterhorn. Trenker later remade it as The Challenge (1938).
