The Falls: Testament of Love

Five years have passed since RJ and Chris's shared mission as Mormon missionaries. After their road trip together, their lives diverged significantly, with RJ moving to Seattle and Chris to Salt Lake City, leading very different lives.

After returning home, Chris is coerced by his father into reparative therapy, which forces him to conform to traditional LDS values. Subsequently, he marries Emily and embraces a life that outwardly denies his true feelings.

In Seattle, RJ flourishes as a magazine editor and openly embraces his sexuality in a long-term relationship with Paul. Despite his new life, RJ remains haunted by his past and the religious beliefs instilled in him during his upbringing.

RJ receives devastating news about the passing of Rodney, a veteran he met during his mission. This prompts RJ to attend the funeral, setting the stage for a fateful reunion with Chris.

At Rodney's funeral, RJ and Chris's paths cross again. However, Chris, now avoiding RJ, tries to leave without speaking, showcasing the emotional turmoil stemming from their unresolved feelings.

RJ confronts Chris, insisting they meet for closure. The meeting is rife with tension as Chris reveals he is living a life rigidly aligned with LDS values, which frustrates RJ, who is trying to move on with Paul.

Later, Chris and RJ meet secretly in a park, where Chris reveals his experience with reparative therapy. Their conversation is filled with tension as Chris struggles to voice his entrapment within his current life.

Following RJ's visit, Chris hosts a dinner with a Mormon couple who begin discussing church-related struggles, igniting Chris's anger and frustration with his hidden life and those who share in it.

While driving past RJ's hotel, Emily sees Chris's car and, filled with suspicion, discovers the two men sharing a passionate moment. This confrontation shatters the façade of Chris's family life.

In a bid to clear the air, Chris calls a family meeting, revealing his sexuality. His initial family support soon turns sour as his father demands a letter be written, condemning Chris's 'sin.'

At his parents' 25th wedding anniversary, RJ makes a bold choice and kisses Chris passionately, shocking everyone in attendance. This moment is a culmination of their suppressed emotions bursting to the surface.

Post-reunion, RJ receives a letter from Chris, which grants him forgiveness for the passionate display at the anniversary. This gesture signifies the ongoing complexity of their relationship and its unresolved nature.

The film concludes with RJ’s reflective voiceover, expressing that although their relationship remains complicated and unresolved, it is far from over. This lingering connection remains a significant part of both their lives.
