The Deep End

Margaret Hall runs the household in Lake Tahoe, taking care of three children and her elderly father-in-law while her Navy pilot husband is away on the USS Constellation. The absence strains the family’s routine as she keeps everything running at home. She worries about Beau’s secrecy and the mounting pressures on him.

Margaret discovers that Beau, a high school senior, has been having an affair with Darby Reese, the 30-year-old nightclub owner in Reno. She goes to Reese's nightclub, The Deep End, to demand that he stay away from her son. Reese refuses and immediately tries to extract a payoff, demanding $5,000.

That night, a drunken Reese secretly visits Beau at the family home and they argue about the money and the affair. Beau confronts him about the situation and the encounter escalates into a physical fight. After Beau leaves, Reese leans on a railing in the boathouse, which suddenly collapses and he falls into the water, impaled on an anchor.

The next morning, Margaret discovers Reese's body on the beach and assumes Beau was involved. She hides the body to protect Beau and dumps it in a cove, hoping to delay an investigation. Police quickly treat the incident as a homicide, and the case begins to focus on Beau.

Alek Spera confronts Margaret with a tape of Darby and Beau having sex, threatening to ruin Beau if she doesn't pay. He demands $50,000 within 24 hours and warns that he will hand the tape to the police, making Beau a prime suspect.

To raise the money, Margaret goes to the bank and tries to cash in valuables, then later attempts to pawn more items, but she cannot secure the full amount. The deadline continues to loom, and Alek's pressure intensifies.

Margaret receives a phone call about the deadline; Nagle corners and beats her in an attempt to intimidate her into paying. Alek arrives, the two men scuffle, and Alek strangles Nagle, killing him.

Alek removes Nagle's body in Nagle's car, leaving the scene with his partner's vehicle. As the events unfold, Margaret struggles with the consequences and the danger surrounding her and Beau.

Margaret and Beau drive to locate Nagle's car and eventually find it overturned in a ditch. The sight confirms the escalating danger tied to Alek, and they brace for what comes next.

Margaret tries to help Alek, who is critically injured, but Alek pleads with her to leave before the police arrive. She stays until Alek dies, choosing to stay with him rather than flee.

Back at home, Margaret is emotionally strained, and Beau offers her comfort. The family tries to resume a normal life, but the incident haunts them and unsettles the household.

Another phone call comes in from the absent husband, and Beau's sister answers. The Halls' normal life resumes, though the crisis has left a lasting mark on the family.
