Harriet 'Harry' and Peter Fox, two con artists based in London, find themselves in dire straits after squandering a considerable sum of money received from a nun. Their reckless spending on gambling and substances leaves them broke and struggling to survive in a city that demands more than they can give.

Desperate to turn their fortunes around, Harry and Peter set their sights on Los Angeles, hoping to regroup and devise a new scheme. Their ambitions lead them across the ocean, seeking opportunities in a city known for its glamorous façade and hidden underworld.

Upon arriving in Los Angeles, the duo reconnects with an old acquaintance, Sidney, a morally ambiguous priest involved in illegal activities. Sidney presents them with an unexpected proposition: a lucrative job transporting a shipment of opium for $40,000.

As the deal with Sidney unfolds, Peter realizes that the stakes are higher than they initially thought. Irina, a dangerous gangster, is pursuing them, driven by complex feelings for Harry and a simmering resentment for Peter, complicating their situation significantly.
