Five years ago, boxer Anton is paid by mobster Skinny Faddeev to deliberately lose a fight against his nephew. In a shocking turn of events, Anton accidentally kills his nephew during the match, which leads to fatal consequences for him.

Just after the fight, Anton is sentenced to life in prison for the death of his nephew. He receives over 200 letters from a woman named Lexie Persimmon during his time in prison, hinting at their deep connection.

After five years in prison, Anton successfully escapes, fueled by the desire to find Lexie. His obsession with discovering her whereabouts leads him to enlist the help of private investigator Ned Cruz.

Anton approaches Ned and offers him the job of locating Lexie, but Ned is hesitant without any clear leads or photos. Determined to uncover the mystery, he eventually takes on the case despite his reservations.

Ned first interviews actor Adam Nova about Lexie's whereabouts, but the meeting ends tragically when Nova's house explodes shortly after their conversation. This incident raises red flags for Ned as he begins to connect the dots.

Ned meets Simon, a physicist, his wife Julie, and Niels Geck, leading him to suspect that Julie might actually be Lexie. His growing feelings for her complicate the investigation as he grapples with this possibility.
