The Banished

Mark comes to Alex's house for help to remove a bullet from his arm. He is worried about going to a hospital due to his criminal background and the risk of police inquiries. Alex assists him in removing the bullet at his home to avoid public hospitals and legal issues.

Alex takes his wife Vera and their two children on a trip to his childhood home in the countryside. The visit initially brings a sense of peace, but tensions rise as Vera reveals she is pregnant with a baby that is not Alex's. The countryside trip exposes underlying issues in their marriage.

Vera confesses to Alex that she is pregnant, but the baby is not his. The revelation causes a rift between them, while they try to maintain appearances around their children and visiting friends. Vera fears Kir, their son, might follow into their criminal lifestyle.

Uncertain about how to handle the situation, Alex turns to his brother Mark for advice. On his way to meet him at the train station, Alex learns that his son Kir has mentioned Robert's presence at their house, which deepens his suspicion about the paternity of the unborn child.

Alex concludes that Robert, a young friend, is likely the father of Vera's baby. Vera feels increasingly estranged from Alex and fears that Kir might inherit their criminal tendencies. Tensions in the marriage escalate as secrets are uncovered.

Following the abortion, Vera is overwhelmed with grief and despair, leading her to overdose on pain medication and commit suicide. The tragic event triggers funeral arrangements and increases gossip in the countryside community.

After Vera’s funeral, Mark suffers a serious heart attack. Despite medical advice to rest, he insists on attending the funeral and dies shortly after returning home, deepening the grief within the family.

Following the series of tragedies, Alex leaves the countryside and returns alone to the city. He revisits Robert’s house with the intent to confront or kill him, driven by the complex web of secrets surrounding Vera’s pregnancy.

While outside Robert’s house, Alex is awakened by Robert, who invites him in. Alex finds an envelope with Vera’s pregnancy test results and a heartfelt letter from her, revealing her emotional struggles and the truth about the paternity.

A flashback reveals that Vera attempted to overdose on pills prior to her death but was saved by Robert. She later confides in Robert that the baby was indeed Alex’s, feeling uncertain about their relationship’s communication and intimacy.
