The Astronaut

Sam Walker's shuttle is struck by debris and crash-lands back on Earth. She is rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and rushed to a hospital for recovery. Doctors in hazmat suits begin questioning her memory of the incident as she recovers.

Upon awakening, doctors in hazmat suits question her about what happened during the crash. She is placed in quarantine for decontamination, and her memory of the event is hazy. The isolation hints at the seriousness of her condition.

Her husband Mark and daughter Izzy visit, offering a glimpse of family life. General William Harris arrives and informs her that the Pentagon is taking over the investigation, and that she is under close government scrutiny.

For safety, Sam is confined alone to a rural cottage, with monitoring by authorities. The isolation heightens paranoia as she questions what is real.

Sam undergoes a series of medical tests to determine her mental and physical fitness. The tests reveal puzzling signs, raising questions about her memory and the true nature of her condition.

While outside, Sam discovers hidden cameras around the premises. She trips over a log and falls unconscious, hinting at surveillance and unseen watchers.

William explains the cameras are linked to an underground bunker inside the house, to be used if intruders breach the property. This arrangement makes Sam feel less safe and more like a subject.

That night, a black creature breaches the home, forcing Sam to flee to the bunker and lock the door behind her. The creature disappears from the security feeds back into the woods.

The next morning, William arrives with scientists for another medical check. Sam privately tells Mark about the black creatures and reveals her real mission to transmit a message to extraterrestrial life.

A swarm of insects assaults the house, filling the air and covering the building, blocking light and visibility. The cloud dies in moments, leaving the family shaken.

Sam's bruising worsens and a power cut triggers the breach alarm. Her body begins to show placenta-like material as three alien creatures are inside the house.

In a telepathic exchange, they reveal they are her true family and that Sam is an alien, with her earlier human life explained as a disguise. They recall their Mojave Desert crash years earlier and the government’s pursuit that separated them.

William confronts the family, revealing that Sam's mission was designed to lure in the aliens for capture. Mark knocks William out before he can detain Sam.

Sam's body fully reveals its alien form, sealing her connection to Earth as she bids her human life farewell. She boards a spaceship with her true family, leaving Earth to evade the converging government authorities.

The spaceship lifts off from the house and climbs into the night sky. William, Mark, and Izzy watch in stunned silence as it disappears into the night.
