Adapted from the 1931 stage hit, the story follows naïve Marianne, who abruptly ends her reluctant engagement to the honest butcher Oskar after becoming infatuated with the frivolous Alfred. Alfred’s lack of genuine feeling leaves Marianne heart‑broken, and she ultimately suffers the harsh consequences of her impulsive decision.
