Vermilion O’Toole, a saloon entertainer, and her former partner Newt Cole flee a prison train and hide in Timberline. The three sons of widower Will Hall arrive seeking a wife for their father. To evade the marshal, Vermilion joins them to the pioneer settlement of Pine Grove, where she initially irritates Mrs. Grundy but eventually finds her place.
