Street Dreams

Derrick Cabrera is an up-and-coming street skater in Chicago who dreams of turning pro. He and his friends roam the city filming skits and chasing the chance to land the N.A.C. trick on camera for a sponsorship video. The local university rail is skate-proofed, creating the central obstacle that begins his mission.

Back home, Derrick's obsession with skating starts to clash with his education and his relationship with his father. Homework and grades slip as he concentrates on practice, straining family ties. The mounting tension foreshadows a major confrontation to come.

Derrick's preppy, party-loving girlfriend Samantha grows weary of his single-minded focus. The breakup marks a turning point, forcing him to choose between school, family, and his skating dream. He doubles down on practice and competition after they part.

Derrick joins Cash, Reese, Troy, Mikey and the crew on a road trip to Ohio to skate a park with the perfect rail and to prep for the Tampa Am contest. They hope the trip will boost visibility for the N.A.C. and attract sponsors. As practice ramps up, Troy's jealousy grows as Derrick draws more attention.

In Ohio, Derrick meets well-known skater Eric Jones and his sister Taylor. He learns Eric will be competing in Tampa Am, which inspires him and gives him a new connection in the skate world. The encounter hints at the bigger stage waiting in Florida.

Back home, Derrick hatches a risky plan to grind off the welded knobs on the university rail to create a perfect surface for the N.A.C. He enlists his friends to watch for cops while he performs the modification at night. The dangerous scheme shows how far he is willing to go to win.

Cops arrive during the night as Derrick grinds the rail, and Troy deliberately withholds warning from the others. Derrick and Mikey are arrested, intensifying tensions with his father and fracturing the crew. The bust becomes the catalyst for Derrick's next move.

After the arrest, Derrick runs away with his friends to Florida to compete in Tampa Am. In Tampa, they dive into mischief—Derrick plays S.K.A.T.E., Cash and Reese spark a fiery incident at their motel, and the crew heads to Ybor City to party. The night spirals as Cash ends up jailed after a fight.

Frictions come to a head when Derrick calls out Troy for ego and for letting the cops arrest him and Mikey. Troy finally confesses to his role, prompting Derrick to abandon the group in anger. He later finds refuge with Eric and Taylor, who offer support in their motel.

On the day of Tampa Am finals, Derrick, Eric, and Taylor return to the arena while his friends await him. Troy shoulders against Derrick in pre-competition practice, but Derrick perseveres. The crowd supports him as he pushes toward the final run.

During the finals, Derrick attempts the N.A.C. in his final run but the clock runs out before the trick counts. The crowd and judges urge him to try again, and he delivers the N.A.C. with footage ready for sponsorship. The performance earns him an immediate sponsorship and widespread recognition.

With the trick landed and a sponsorship secured, Derrick exchanges numbers with Taylor and hops into Troy's van to drive home to Chicago. The victory marks the start of his professional skate career and the end of this chapter for the crew.
