In 1981, Daniel Grayham, a man with paranoid schizophrenia, escapes from a mental asylum after killing a doctor and stealing his uniform. He vanishes into the night, leaving authorities with few leads. This escape plants the seeds for a killer who will haunt the story years later.

Three years after the escape, a sociology teacher at St. Trinian's College is murdered while working alone in a classroom. To fill the vacancy, Father Janson hires Julie Parker to take the position for the following semester. The campus reels from the violence, and the new teacher's arrival signals a fragile sense of safety.

Julie begins teaching at St. Trinian's and quickly befriends fellow teachers Cynthia and Mark. She soon forms a romantic connection with Mark as she settles into her new position. The trio becomes central to the unfolding tensions around the school.

Two female students are murdered by an unseen knife-wielding killer. One victim is found in a local parking lot and the other at a drive-in movie, spreading fear through the campus community. The killings mount a sense of creeping danger.

Cynthia calls Julie in the middle of the night, sharing suspicions that Mark may be the killer. Julie vows to investigate and keeps watch for clues. The mounting paranoia drives the investigation forward.

With Cynthia's help, Julie investigates Mark's apartment while he is out. She discovers a pocket knife and various newspaper clippings about the recent murders, furthering her suspicion. Mark unexpectedly returns, forcing Julie to flee.

The next day, Cynthia's mutilated corpse is found in a storage room within the college, and the building closes early. More students and a teacher are killed in rapid succession, deepening the crisis. Julie tells Father Janson she plans to quit and leave town.

Julie calls Father Janson, convinced Mark is the killer, and asks him to meet her at St. Trinian's later that night. The meeting sets the stage for a tense confrontation as suspicions run high. The mystery tightens around the campus.

Mark arrives on campus, prompting Julie to attack him and flee back toward the college. She escapes and heads for safety as the night grows increasingly dangerous. The pursuit leaves both of them in a volatile standoff.

During the confrontation, Father Janson reveals his true identity as Daniel Grayham, not a disabled priest. He explains his misogynistic and religious zealot motives and produces a knife from his crucifix. Julie fights back by turning the knife on him and runs away.

Julie hides in a bathroom, then screams and runs out after discovering the bloody remains of a teacher in a stall. She pulls away, climbs into an elevator, but Janson catches up and kills her by slicing open her back. The campus darkens as the killer closes in.

Mark gets inside the college and discovers Julie's lifeless body. He processes the horror and searches for clues to the killer. His discovery shifts the investigation from suspicion to a pursuit of the true killer.

Janson attempts to frame Mark by claiming the murder on him, but Mark bursts into the room and notices a bloody knife sheath disguised as a crucifix on the wall of Janson's office. The evidence undermines Janson's plan and exposes his deception. The killer's attempt to mislead authorities collapses under scrutiny.

With his plans foiled, Janson is taken away to an insane asylum and placed in a straitjacket. The hospital becomes his final destination as Mark's investigation closes the case. The truth behind the campus murders is finally secured.
