On February 20, 1963, a young girl named Andie lays under the night sky, captivated by the flight of Friendship 7. She imagines astronaut John Glenn winking at her and makes a solemn vow to one day follow in his footsteps to become an astronaut.

Fast forward 23 years, Andie Bergstrom arrives at the John F. Kennedy Space Center where she is now a part of NASA’s astronaut program. Despite feeling disheartened for not getting selected for a space mission, she is hopeful as her husband Zack recruits her for the summer Space Camp program.

During the registration for the Space Camp program, Kevin Donaldson unintentionally parks in Zack's spot and quickly becomes enamored with a fellow pilot named Kathryn Fairly. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, he grabs someone else's credentials to join the Blue Team just to be near her.

Andie, noticing Kevin's lack of credentials, allows him to stay in the Blue Team as they are one member short with Hideo's absence. The Blue Team consists of a blend of quirky personalities alongside Kevin, including Tish, Rudy, and Max who all bring their unique skills to the program.

Andie assigns roles to her cadets, and to everyone's astonishment, carefree Kevin is chosen as the Shuttle Commander while determined Kathryn takes on the role of Pilot. The team is eager yet nervous as they begin their journey towards becoming astronauts.

During their initial tour, the Blue Team is introduced to Jinx, a quirky robot intended for future space station use. Max secretly keeps Jinx in his closet, and when the mischievous Green Team overwhelms Jinx on one occasion, Max resolves to fix him, sealing a deep friendship.

As the Blue Team tries to work together, Kevin's nonchalant attitude prevents them from functioning effectively. Coupled with Kathryn's struggle with a necessary trainer, tensions begin to rise within the team, leading to their first significant conflict.

In a bid to bond, Kevin and Kathryn sneak out to see the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Their absence triggers Jinx's programming to alert Zack, causing Kevin to deflect blame onto Max, igniting further discord among the group.

During a joint simulation exercise, poor communication leads to a catastrophic mission failure for the Blue Team. Andie confronts Kevin about his lack of responsibility, heightening the stakes for their upcoming Atlantis mission.

The Blue Team receives a surprising chance to board Atlantis for a crucial engine test. However, chaos ensues when Jinx falsely indicates a 'thermal curtain failure,' inadvertently launching the shuttle with the team aboard.

Once in orbit, the team faces limited oxygen supply and must reach Space Station Daedalus for assistance. Andie takes a dangerous spacewalk to retrieve vital oxygen canisters, leading Max to bravely volunteer for a similar task when Andie’s efforts fall short.

As the oxygen levels continue to drop, the Blue Team fights to fill tanks and assist Andie safely. They must work cohesively under pressure to survive, managing the delicate balance of teamwork amidst their personal differences.

In a critical moment, Kevin decides to override Atlantis's auto-landing system to save Andie, presenting a glimmer of hope for the team. His choice underlines the importance of teamwork and the bond they have developed through their struggles.

As they approach re-entry, Kathryn confronts her fears and takes control of the shuttle during a critical spin. Her training kicks in, and with great determination, she navigates Atlantis safely back to Earth, securing a triumphant finish for the Blue Team.

The mission concludes with a successful landing of Atlantis at White Sands, marking a significant milestone for the Blue Team. Their journey, filled with challenges, camaraderie, and personal growth, celebrates the spirit of adventure and resilience.
