Traigon seeks to sacrifice his firstborn to Caligara to sustain his dark powers. His wife gives birth to twin daughters, Mara and Mira. As Traigon closes in, she flees with the babies to protect them from his grasp.

She escapes with the twins and persuades a peasant to raise them as warrior boys. Traigon pursues relentlessly and mortally wounds her during the pursuit. The twins are left to grow up under threat of their father's return.

In a final act of defiance, she stabs Traigon and banishes him for 20 years. She dies soon after, sealing his fate. The twins remain hidden and protected, awaiting the day they will face their father.

The wandering wizard Krona arrives and helps defeat Traigon, granting the infants magical powers and martial arts prowess. He instructs them to invoke a higher power named Vital when they are in trouble. His arrival provides hope for the twins' survival and future rebellion.

Two decades later, Traigon returns from exile and resumes his hunt to sacrifice the twins to Caligara. He rallies forces and begins tracking them across lands toward his dark goal. The twins must now rely on their training and allies to resist him.

The twins meet Baldar the Viking, Erlick the curly-haired barbarian, and the satyr Pando, forming a fellowship. In a city marketplace, Erlick shows his skill by using loaded dice to win, drawing unwanted attention. He escapes and joins the group to face their father together.

Traigon's forces kill the twins' adoptive parents and assault their adoptive sister. The twins return from their travels and lead a confrontation, driving off the marauders and protecting their remaining family. The loss deepens their resolve to defeat Traigon.

Krona, now old, arrives again and walks into a fire, apologizing for arriving too late to save the twins' family. His self-sacrifice marks a turning point in their quest and deepens the sense of loss the sisters carry.

At a safe house, the twins shed their boyish clothes and cylindrical hats, revealing their true identities. Baldar and Erlick react with surprise and awkwardness as they realize the twins are not boys. The group continues their adventures with renewed determination.

Traigon's trained apes disrupt the party by throwing exploding fruit. One favored ape is promised Mira, creating a sinister tension as Mara and Mira realize the danger they face. The spectacle intensifies Traigon's reach and cruelty.

Erlick and Mara are captured by Traigon. Erlick is stripped naked and nearly impaled, but his royal blood is revealed and he is spared. Traigon then manipulates the plan by arranging Mara to be paired with Erlick to prepare her for sacrifice.

Erlick and Mara share a secret romance, which Mira senses telepathically. Pando grows restless with excitement, while Baldar vows to protect the twins. The rescue attempt leads the party into a treacherous pit.

The ape Mira was promised to uncovers the pit and frees some captives. The group must contend with evil zombies rising from Traigon's necromantic trap. Pando rallies a village army and goats to aid Baldar and Mira in the fight.

When Erlick is about to sacrifice Mara, she remembers the name Vital and invokes it. A benevolent flying-lion god appears, driving away Caligara's explosions and aiding the twins. In the chaos, they kill Traigon and end his tyranny.

Erlick cradles Mara and Mira, while Baldar remains puzzled by their bond. Erlick reminds him that the twins are two who are one, and they share a moment of relief and laughter after their victory. The trio looks toward a hopeful future.
