Dragon Quest: Your Story

Luca, Takeru Satoh, grows up hearing how his father, King Pankraz, once led a bold, world-spanning rescue to save Gotha’s queen Mada. When monstrous forces snatch Mada away, Pankraz sets off across the globe with the young Luca in tow, determined to bring her home. Along the way, they cross paths with Bianca, Kasumi Arimura, a fiercely capable ally who becomes an essential companion on their journey. Together they secure the Golden Orb and a sabrecat cub they name Purrcy, and Luca’s road to becoming a hero begins to take shape in the shadows of an ever-worsening threat.

The danger deepens when Coburg’s Prince Harry, Kentaro Sakaguchi, is also abducted by the monsters, spurring a relentless pursuit led by Pankraz and Luca. The pursuit ends in tragedy when Bishop Ladja destroys Pankraz and enslaves both Luca and Harry, binding their fates to a grim bowl of tyranny. The tale widens its scope, introducing the ominous figure Mildrath, Arata Furuta, whose dark machinations loom over the looming crisis and the Demon World that houses Nimzo, a Grandmaster whose fate intertwines with the quest to close the looming rift. The world grows heavier, and the stakes rise with every turning page of this legend.

Ten years pass in a cruel slumber of chains and memory. The two boys finally break free, and the battle for their futures resumes. Harry returns to Coburg, nursing the hope of repaying Luca for the sacrifices made in the rescue attempt. Luca, now older and wiser, re-encounters a fully grown Purrcy and his steadfast retainer Sancho, Kendo Kobayashi. They are joined by a curious slime named Gootrude, a quirky friend who seems to have a larger role in the unfolding saga than a simple comic relief. Ladja’s scheme intensifies as he plots to free Grandmaster Nimzo by exploiting Mada’s Zenithian lineage to pry open a deadly portal. The legend of a destined hero who would seal the portal haunts every corner of their world, and Pankraz’s grave certainty that Luca could be that hero echoes through the growing chorus of doubt and resolve.

To prove himself, Luca must claim the Zenithian Sword, which sits in the town of Mostroferrato in the hands of the wealthy nobleman Rodrigo Briscoletti. But the town trembles under the shadow of Bjørn the Behemoose, who stole the sword and has become a terrifying symbol of the town’s desperation. Briscoletti promises his daughter Nera’s hand to whoever defeats Bjørn, and Luca accepts the challenge. Bianca lends her steady, fearless support, and together they defeat Bjørn in a pivotal, climactic confrontation. Yet victory comes with a cold truth: Luca cannot yet wield the sword, a crippling admission that seems to disprove the prophecy of the Legendary Hero. A twist of fate follows when a witch disguised as Nera unsettles Luca’s heart, revealing that the person he truly loves is Bianca, not the physical prize before him. Luca and Bianca marry, their union blessed by time and tempered by trial, and they welcome a son named Alus into a world built on love and legacy. Peace is short-lived, however, as a new wave of monster attacks tests their bond and resolve. Ladja’s power culminates in a brutal moment that turns Luca and Bianca to stone, a cruel reminder that the fight for Gotha is never truly over. Eight years slip by, and Alus rises with a crucial gift—the Stolos’ staff—that resurrects his father from petrified sleep. The revelation is staggering: Alus is the true Legendary Hero, and the battle to save their world lands squarely on his shoulders.

The group seeks help from Dr. Agon, whose strange mastery could transform Luca into the Zenith Dragon—if only he could obtain the Golden Orb that Luca had as a child. The orb is broken, but Agon immediately recognizes it as a counterfeit. He counsels a daring plan: seek aid from the fairies who will provide a new path, sending Luca back in time to swap the fake orb for the real one he once possessed. With the aid of Bjørn and Harry’s assembled army, the party moves to revive Bianca and confront Ladja’s looming threat. In the climactic confrontation, Ladja succeeds in opening the portal, but Alus acts with the courage of a true hero, sealing the rift once and for all.

Yet the victory comes with a twist of surreal fate. The world around them begins to distort, and a mysterious entity reveals itself as the source of the dreamlike chaos. Luca learns that he is playing a Dragon Quest V in a virtual realm, a revelation that tests the meaning and value of his quest. The game’s anti-virus, Gootrude, steps forward to reveal the deeper truth—that the world isn’t merely a pastime, but a story of courage, sacrifice, and love that matters in every form. With renewed purpose, Luca wields Erdrick’s sword to erase the virus and restore the game’s balance, returning to Gotha with a heart full of remembered pain and unshakable resolve.

As fireworks shimmer over Gotha in the final moment, Bianca’s playful touch reminds Luca of the cost of their journey and the force of their shared love.
