Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

Sonu believed Pihu was not right for Titu because she was possessive and callous, while Titu is naturally loving and caring. Sweety was previously engaged to Rahul, but the engagement ended because he was domineering and possessive. During a trip to Goa, Rahul caused a drunken scene, which made Sweety realize she could not marry someone so controlling. This history directly explains why Sweety became a control freak herself, she reacted to being controlled by becoming controlling.

The Goa incident foreshadows Sweety's own controlling behavior later in the film.

Sweety revealed to Sonu on engagement night that she is a control freak who intends to have complete influence over Titu's life. She saw Sonu as the first obstacle to remove because he was Titu's closest friend and the person most likely to stand between them. Her goal was total control over Titu and his household.

Sonu arranged a bachelor party in Amsterdam and secretly contacted Pihu, convincing her that Titu still loved her and wanted to reconnect. He orchestrated the meeting as a supposed accident, using the trip to reintroduce Pihu into Titu's life as a way to counter Sweety's influence.

During the garland ceremony, Sonu gave Titu a final ultimatum to choose between them. Titu responded that if forced to choose between Sonu and anyone else, he will always choose his best friend. He cited the only two times he had seen Sonu cry, one being three days after his mother's death when they were thirteen, proving the depth of their bond.

The film earlier establishes that Sonu does not easily show vulnerability, making his tears at age thirteen deeply significant.

After the engagement, Sweety took control of the household by pressuring relatives to buy and name a house for her and Titu. She replaced the caretaker, turned the home vegetarian, and threatened to reveal past lies from Titu's grandfather Ghasitaram to his grandmother, using these tactics to tighten her grip on the family.

Sonu organized the bachelor party as a strategic move to protect Titu from Sweety's manipulative schemes. The trip gave Titu time and space away from Sweety's influence, allowing Sonu to execute his plan of bringing Pihu back into the picture to challenge Sweety's control over Titu.

Sweety told Pihu that Sonu was responsible for breaking up her and Titu originally, revealing that Sonu had manipulated the situation to ruin Sweety's plans. When Titu learned this truth, he confronted Sonu in anger and pushed him away, believing his friend had interfered inappropriately in his love life.

In the mandap during the wedding standoff, Sweety realized that her manipulative tactics and controlling behavior could not win Titu's love. She had to accept that no amount of scheming could override the bond between Titu and Sonu, leading her to concede the situation.

Titu revealed he had only seen Sonu cry twice in their lives, one being three days after his mother's death when they were thirteen years old. This emotional memory proved to Titu that Sonu's friendship is unconditional and deeper than any romantic relationship, ultimately deciding his choice at the wedding.
