Slaughterhouse

An aging farmer named Lester Bacon lives a quiet, hard-edged rural life with his son Buddy, a large, mentally simple young man. The two inhabit a property shadowed by a modern, factory-style slaughterhouse that has replaced their old hog farming ways. When two teenagers vanish, the local tension rises as the film traces the vulnerability of a family and a community caught between old values and industrial change.

A grim plan drifts into the open, as a group of high-schoolers—Skip, Buzz, Annie, and Liz (Sheriff Borden’s daughter)—dream of shooting a “horror video” and figure the derelict area around the Bacon Slaughterhouse would be the perfect backdrop. Their playful curiosity and curiosity-driven bravado set the scene for what will unfold in the dark corners of the farm and its shadowy neighbor.

The body count begins in earnest as Buddy’s temper erupts into brutal violence. After showing Lester the bodies of Kevin Matthews and Michelle Mitchell, Buddy’s actions reveal the depths of his rage. A routine family concern about money mutates into a deadly scheme as Lester’s attorney Harold Murdock, along with his law partner Tom Sanford and Sheriff Fred Borden, drop by with an offer to buy the land and the forsaken slaughterhouse for $55,000. Lester refuses, and Fred, sensing foreclosures and pressure from the assessor’s office, warns that the family has just 30 days to vacate.

The investigation and the terror accelerate as authorities and locals collide with Buddy’s cruelty. Deputy Dave Thomas searches the slaughterhouse for the missing couple and uncovers more evidence of the horror, only to be viciously attacked when Buddy strikes—disabling Dave and leaving a brutal wake of fear. Buddy’s killings intensify as he targets Tom and Harold, soon turning the slaughterhouse into a killing ground. The attackers’ violence is sudden, efficient, and chilling, and fear ripples through the town as more people disappear.

Liz and her friends become entangled in the nightmare, drawing closer to the slaughterhouse’s grim interior. During the night, Fred learns that Tom and Harold have vanished without a trace. Liz and her companions arrive, splitting up to search the facility, while Buddy and Lester close in, capturing, torturing, and destroying anything that stands in their way. The atmosphere grows claustrophobic as the characters navigate the corridors of the old processing rooms and the shadows of the sprawling property.

The climax collapses into a brutal, brutal confrontation. Liz demonstrates resourcefulness and resolve as she fights to escape, eventually forcing Lester into a deadly moment. Lester’s predatory violence erupts in a final, devastating encounter in which Liz uses her father’s gun to shoot Lester, then drags in Fred for a last, fatal measure as she attempts to flee. Buddy, though seemingly defeated, rises from the backseat as Liz drives away, and the danger surges back in an instant when Buddy finishes off Fred and lunges at Liz with his knife. The movie ends on Liz’s scream, a stark, unresolved note that leaves the audience with a lingering sense of dread about what was and what could still be.
