Sixpack Annie

In the Southern United States town of Titwillow, two attractive young women set out for a day at the diner. Annie [Lindsay Bloom] and Mary Lou [Jana Bellan] ride in a pickup, with Annie behind the wheel, speeding along and sipping beer as the sun climbs. Their passenger and stumbling comic relief is Sheriff Waters [Joe Higgins], a local lawman who trails the car all the way to the diner, only to slip on a banana peel and take a pratfall, much to the amused delight of the diner’s regulars Hank [Doodles Weaver] and Luke [Ronald Lee Marriott], who happen to be watching the mishap unfold.

The diner’s owner, Aunt Tess [Danna Hansen], is fighting to keep her place from the clutches of a bank determined to foreclose on her mortgage—now behind by 5,641 dollars and 87 cents. Sheriff Waters briefly detains Annie and her boyfriend Bobby Joe [Bruce Boxleitner], accusing them of nude swimming, but he later releases her and proposes to settle Aunt Tess’s debt if Annie would marry him. Yet the sheriff’s pockets contain only a few hundred dollars, and his plan is to recoup the rest by “collecting parking tickets.”

Seeking the money, Annie and Mary Lou travel to Miami to visit Annie’s sister Flora [Louisa Moritz], who lives in a stylish apartment and seems to earn her income through arrangements with men who pay for companionship. Flora’s client list includes a nervous married man who hides in a large wicker basket when the sisters arrive, as well as other would‑be benefactors who float in and out of her world. Flora briefly hints that Annie should find a sugar daddy, but the hopeful prospects soon multiply into a parade of characters: Louis Danton, a wealthy Frenchman with a Napoleonic swagger who wears a uniform and carries a wooden horse head on a stick; Mr. O’ Meyer, who goes by “Oscar Meyer,” calls himself “as rich as Rockefeller,” and uses charm to lure and then take what little money Annie has, leaving behind a note signed “The City Slicker.” In the mix, moneyed Texan Jack Whittlestone [Richard Kennedy] arrives, only to reveal a fiercely possessive wife, Edna [Montana Smoyer], who presses a shotgun to his nose in a tense moment of doubt and danger.

Disheartened and more than a little wary, Annie and Mary Lou return to Titwillow just as Sheriff Waters and banker Piker [Donald Elson] arrive to seal Aunt Tess’s fate. A new buyer appears in the form of Mr. Bates [Stubby Kaye], a traveling salesman who also collects jewelry, and he offers a tempting 7,000 dollars for Annie’s necklace. The sequence culminates in a comic, chaotic accident when Waters, wearing a wide‑brimmed hat, is bumped by a small, uncredited midget baker carrying white cream pies. One of the pies lands squarely on the sheriff’s face, a messy but humorous end to the day’s fraught meddling and a reminder of Titwillow’s stubborn endurance.

The story dances between ambition, flirtation, and sudden misfortune, painting a portrait of a small town where resilience and a sense of humor keep people moving, even when schemes and schemes of romance collide with hard realities.
