Sherman’s life, portrayed by Michael Shulman, as a diligent Yale law student takes an unexpected turn when he decides to embrace a more spontaneous and adventurous approach to life, a suggestion prompted by his girlfriend, Lacey Chabert. While she intended this advice to pertain to their relationship, it results in Sherman finding himself seated next to the eccentric and endearing Palmer, played by James LeGros, a former Olympic athlete whose glory days are behind him.

After experiencing a painful breakup and losing financial support from his mother, Sherman embarks on a road trip to Southern California, where a significant job opportunity awaits him.
