Amidst the chaos of the Second Sino-Japanese War, Gwok-man is filled with patriotic zeal and decides to join the army. His commitment to serve reflects the turbulent emotional landscape of wartime China, setting the stage for his personal journey.

During an air raid in Shanghai, Gwok-man takes shelter under Suzhou Bridge and meets Aak-syu. The two share a tender moment, falling in love and vowing to reunite at the same location after the war.

Ten years pass since the outbreak of war, and Gwok-man returns to Shanghai in search of Aak-syu. Instead of finding her, he meets vagrant veterans who remind him of the passage of time and lost opportunities.

Having survived the years, Aak-syu is now a dance hostess at the Bat-je-sing nightclub. Her life has drastically changed, filled with challenges and the pursuit of survival in a war-torn city.

Aak-syu encounters a scatterbrained newcomer named Dang-zai, who has just had her money stolen. In an act of kindness, Aak-syu offers Dang-zai a place to stay, setting off a series of events that intertwine their fates.

When Aak-syu’s maid is assaulted, Aak-syu intervenes and is beaten for her bravery. In a chaotic moment, she is thrust onto the stage to perform, unexpectedly catching the eye of a wealthy plutocrat.

Unintentionally, Dang-zai enters a beauty contest believing it to be an interview for a teaching job. The old lady sponsor, wanting to prevent her husband from being seduced, unwittingly chooses Dang-zai as the winner, changing her trajectory.

Gwok-man's song 'Shanghai Blues' gains unexpected popularity after being performed by a famous singer. This success brings new hope and opportunities, yet he remains emotionally tied to his past love Aak-syu.

One day, while it's pouring rain, Gwok-man and Aak-syu find themselves sharing an umbrella. This encounter rekindles their connection, though complications arise with Dang-zai's unrequited feelings for Gwok-man.

Gwok-man and Aak-syu take to the streets as performers to promote a new gift shop. This moment illustrates their shared passion and aspirations, even in the face of their complicated personal lives.

While performing, Gwok-man and Aak-syu's paths cross as she emerges from a shop where she’s been receiving gifts from a wealthy admirer. Their eyes meet, reigniting feelings and leaving them both contemplative about their relationship.

At a party, Dang-zai faces a terrifying situation involving a rich man and a potential assault. A comedic twist occurs when a wealthy old lady mistakenly consumes a potion, leading to unforeseen chaos and a narrow escape for Dang-zai.

Amid the confusion at the party, Gwok-man and Aak-syu finally recognize each other. This moment solidifies their bond and highlights the enduring connection they share despite the years apart.
