Aarti Shukla, a highly ambitious university student, meets Satyendra 'Sattu' Mishra on her parents' insistence. They quickly connect, finding each other's intelligence and charm appealing. The two begin to picture a future together and decide to marry.

Aarti and Sattu fall in love and openly decide to marry each other. Their growing affection prompts both families to start arranging the alliance. The couple envisions a union that blends ambition with tradition.

On the Haldi ceremony day, Aarti learns she has cleared the PCS exam in her first attempt. Abha warns that in-laws will not let her continue her career, and urges Aarti to rethink the marriage. The moment foreshadows the clash between ambition and tradition.

Abha and their uncle persuade Aarti's father to support a flight from the wedding planning. Aarti discreetly leaves the house, leaving Sattu heartbroken and confused about the suddenly broken arrangement. The family misreads her departure as a rejection rather than a pursuit of opportunity.

Aarti's uncle and Abha calm her father and lie to Sattu's family, telling them Aarti didn't know about dowry and ran away when she learned of it. The plan is meant to spare the family from social ridicule. The deception plants seeds for later misunderstandings.

Five years pass and Aarti is now a PCS officer in Lucknow. A brutal accusation claims she took a bribe to sell government land, drawing the attention of the district magistrate—Satyendra Mishra—now a powerful IAS officer. This marks the start of a personal and professional confrontation.

Satyendra uses his power to torment Aarti as the investigation unfolds. He openly tells her that he loathes her, blaming the heartbreak and the family disgrace for his bitterness. Aarti confronts him, explaining her decision to pursue PCS training.

Aarti seeks information from Kukreja about the bribe, but he accuses her of being complicit and faking innocence. When Sattu learns of the meeting, he orders Aarti's arrest to shield her from further danger. The line between past and present crimes blurs as the legal battle intensifies.

In the final hearing, it is revealed that Neelam, Aarti's friend, took the bribe and manipulated signatures. Sattu had Aarti imprisoned to protect her from a murder plot, not out of anger. Aarti is found not guilty, and Sattu allows her to resume her work.

Following the tumult, Aarti attempts to win Sattu back and even plans to marry Sharad. Sattu attends the looming wedding with his family, his emotions stirred by her bridal moment. The reunion remains uncertain as memories resurface.

During the wedding, Aarti's cousin reveals that the whole event was a ploy by the Mishra and Shukla families to trap Sattu into marrying Aarti. Sharad is revealed to be Abha's husband and Aarti's brother-in-law, complicating loyalties. The revelation reframes the earlier romance as a strategic pivot.

In the end, the families join in laughter and the couple reconciles. Sattu realizes marrying Aarti was the right choice and proposes again. The film closes with Sattu and Aarti marrying, signaling a hopeful union.
