Seven Minutes in Heaven

Jeff storms out after an argument with his stepfather Gerry and heads to Natalie's house. Natalie agrees to let him stay there while her father is away on business. This marks the start of the friends sharing a home.

Polly meets Zoo Knudsen, a professional baseball player, and they duck into a lingerie store to avoid a fan. Zoo buys Polly a negligée and they later share a kiss in his car. He asks Polly how old she is and she says 18, inviting her to come to New York for one of his games.

Polly visits Natalie’s house and finds Jeff outside in a sleeping bag, giving Natalie and Casey privacy. She wrongly assumes they are having sex and leaves disappointed. This misinterpretation fuels tension among the friends.

Jeff's mother talks to his football coach and convinces him to kick Jeff off the team as punishment for leaving home. She later finds Jeff and tries to persuade him to come home, but he refuses. The rift widens between Jeff and his family.

Natalie and Casey begin to spend more time together, growing closer as friends. Polly becomes more jealous, sensing Zoo's attention is shifting away from her. The trio's dynamics start to strain under new feelings.

Polly tries to seduce Jeff in an attempt to become sexually experienced before she sees Zoo again. They start to get intimate, but Jeff walks out when Polly brings up Zoo. The moment deepens Polly's frustration and isolates her further from the group.

During a school fire drill, Polly shouts that Casey is flirting with a classmate named Lisa. Casey confesses he never stopped seeing Lisa. Natalie, heartbroken, tells Casey to give her space and lashes out at Jeff.

Natalie wins a writing competition and travels to Washington, D.C. She meets the vice-president, a state senator, and Williams, a White House aide. Williams makes a pass at her, which she declines, and she suggests they visit the Washington Monument.

Polly goes to New York to watch Zoo play. She causes a commotion by climbing onto the dugout and pulling the negligée to grab Zoo’s attention, then loses it and is detained by police. Bill, a professional photographer, intervenes by pretending to know her, lets her stay at his apartment, and drives her to the airport the next morning.

Natalie's father returns home and discovers Jeff has been living with Natalie. Natalie and Polly reconcile at the airport, and he calls Jeff's mother, who arrives and demands that Jeff come home.

Jeff and his mother talk on Natalie's porch; Jeff contemplates moving to California to be with his dad, but she reminds him Gerry isn't his real father. He absorbs the notion that Gerry is, in effect, the father he’ll have left.

Sometime later, Jeff plays basketball outside his house with Gerry. Natalie and Polly arrive on roller skates and pull Jeff away. The three friends walk down the street, smiling and holding hands.
