In the quaint town of Battlecreek, we meet Henry Pearl, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård, who faces the challenges of a rare skin condition that makes him highly sensitive to sunlight. This condition is a poignant reminder of a childhood accident that not only left him with scars but also stemmed from his father’s abandonment and his mother Tallulah’s (Paula Malcomson) overbearing protection. Tallulah’s attempts to safeguard Henry have kept him confined mostly to their home and a local diner, where the warmth of waitress Melinda (Dana Powell) provides him with a rare glimpse of comfort and normalcy.

Henry finds himself drifting through life, often engaging in nocturnal escapades, where he expresses his thoughts through murals on his walls and works a night shift at a gas station alongside family friend Arthur (Delroy Lindo). Things take a dramatic turn when the enigmatic Alison (Claire van der Boom) enters his world. With her mysterious aura and her own concealed secrets, she ignites a profound change within Henry, leading him to find confidence, while Alison begins to confront her hidden emotions.
