Mahalakshmi is a devoted servant in the house of the elderly Amritavalli in Pazhani, and she is cherished like a family member even as she shoulders the lion’s share of the household work. A sincere devotee of Lord Murugan, she clings to a quiet dream of visiting a Murugan temple in Pazhani, a wish that remains out of reach due to her duties and the social dynamics around her. One night, she experiences a vivid dream, where she stands at her own wedding with an unknown man, a vision that lingers as a spark of hope.

The very next day, life shifts when that man arrives at the house. He is Amritavalli’s grandson, Mano Ramalingam, and he instantly captures Maha’s attention and affections. As the two begin to fall in love, Mano too finds himself drawn to Maha, albeit with a cautious heart. He reassures Maha that his mother will arrange the marriage, but the path to happiness is thorny. Mano is gripped by a fear of confessing his love to his mother, Thangam, who looms large as the family’s decision-maker. Thangam, a close friend from Mano’s past, becomes entangled in the plan to marry Mano off to her childhood friend’s daughter, a step that clashes with Maha’s presence in Mano’s life. When Thangam learns of the romance, she feels powerless to stop it and instead urges the lovers to forget one another. In the midst of these pressures, Maha finds herself increasingly treated as a servant by everyone else—except for Amritavalli and Thangam—until the weight of this social judgment pushes her to a turning point. Maha, angered and disheartened, appeals to Lord Murugan, vowing not to endure the injustice any longer.

Into this storm steps Saravanan, introduced as a cook appointed by the household’s ally, Madhava Gounder. His culinary skill earns him instant praise, and the household begins to value him for his talent. Yet Maha, who once found solace in cooking as a peaceful hobby, cannot share in the kitchen’s harmony because her heart is divided between love and duty. Saravanan is housed in the guest quarters where Gumbidi Samy, a flamboyant fraud posing as a swami, is staying. It doesn’t take long for Saravanan to uncover that Gumbidi Samy is deceiving people with his religious pretense. Using this insight, Saravanan leverages his influence, steering conversations and rumors to expose the questionable match between Mano and his supposed fiancée.

Over time, through a series of careful maneuvers, Saravanan helps Maha and Mano see a path to each other’s happiness. The family, especially Thangam and Amritavalli, gradually recognizes the sincerity of the young couple and agrees to let Mano marry Maha. As the wedding day arrives, Maha and Mano search for Saravanan to express their gratitude for the role he played in their union. In a twist, another man arrives, claiming to be the only Saravanan in the area, leaving Maha disappointed and confused. She goes to Murugan’s altar to seek guidance, and there she sees the original Saravanan, who fades away right after. The film closes with a reflective message: God may come down to earth in a human form to aid those in need, reminding viewers that divine help can appear in humble, compassionate disguise.
