Ye Xianglun is a gifted pianist who shares a quiet life with his father, Anthony Wong. In 1999, Xianglun enters Tamkang Secondary School (Danjiang), a prestigious music academy where his father teaches, and soon discovers that the old piano building slated for demolition on graduation day casts a quiet weight over the campus. As Xianglun and Xiaoyu spend time together—within crowded practice spaces, quiet corridors, and the winding streets of the town—their bond grows with a gentleness that hints at something timeless. Their first kiss arrives after Xianglun wins a rare music score for her at a school piano battle, a moment that crystallizes their connection. When Xianglun broaches the looming demolition of the building, Xiaoyu plays him the Secret once more and warns him not to play it on the oldest piano in the room, a caution that foreshadows the power and danger embedded in the melody. A subtle undertone of jealousy threads the story as Qing Yi tries to draw Xianglun toward her, adding tension to the circle of students who orbit the two musicians.

After the ceremony, Xianglun searches for Xiaoyu in vain; classmates describe him as someone who was always alone, and he experiences a growing ache as fragmented memories of Xiaoyu surface, blurred and incomplete.

The mystery deepens as Xianglun’s father offers a crucial clue: Xiaoyu’s story, once dismissed, carries a seed of truth about a score called Secret and its time-twisting properties. In a flashback to 1979, Xiaoyu speaks with Xianglun’s father at the school, confessing that she found the score hidden in the oldest piano and that playing it could transport a person forward or backward in time. She explains she can only be seen by the first person she encounters, which is why she often seems missing. Back in the present, Xianglun realizes that Secret can move the pianist through time when played at the right tempo on the old piano. He races toward the piano building, now within reach of the wrecking crews. Meanwhile, his father retrieves Xiaoyu’s manuscript with a new, hopeful message scribbled on the back twenty years earlier. The moment arrives as the demolition begins: Xianglun sits at the ancient piano and begins to play Secret from memory, guided by Xiaoyu’s whispered instruction to “play it fast when I want to go back.” The structure groans and collapses around him, and just as a wrecking ball descends, he pushes through the final note, risking everything for the chance to reach her.

Outside the classroom, a glimmer of recognition appears as Xiaoyu looks in and smiles at him, an image that seems to bridge two decades. The closing image shows the 1979 Tamkang Secondary School graduation photograph, with Xianglun and Xiaoyu standing beside one another, a quiet promise that time cannot fully erase.
