We are only entitled to one life—so why not a second? Nicholas celebrates his 40th birthday at his country house surrounded by friends, seemingly having everything he ever wanted. That night he drowns in his swimming pool, and his spirit begins to wonder how his life might have unfolded had he chosen differently a decade earlier. The narrative splits between the police investigation into his mysterious death and Nicholas’s own exploration of an alternate existence, offering a haunting “second life” perspective.
