Live Once, Die Twice

Nicole Lauker is left reeling when the police inform her that the fishing trip she and her husband planned took a fatal turn: a bomb destroyed the boat, and Evan Lauker is dead. The initial theory points to illicit substances, painting a portrait of danger and deceit, but Nicole cannot accept that the man she loved could be connected to drugs. Seeking help, Nicole and Zoe turn to Zoe’s bounty-hunter friend, Mac. Together they trace the statues to an art museum where Evan had purchased them, and the trail leads to a startling revelation: Evan is very much alive, living under a different name and address. Confronting him at his home, Nicole learns the truth behind his actions: he is an undercover agent for the State Department, and his bigamy, as well as the two faked deaths, were part of a larger, sanctioned scheme to secure a $5 million deal with criminals, carried out under the direction of his handler. The revelation shakes Nicole, yet she remains determined to see the truth through.

Though Evan professes affection and asks Nicole to run away with him to the Caribbean, she refuses to abandon the life she has built. She agrees only to participate in the planned platinum-for-cash exchange, a pivotal moment that could reveal the real stakes of Evan’s operation. As the situation spirals toward a dangerous climax, Evan abducts Nicole and Zoe and drags them onto his boat, hoping to seal the deal on his terms. A tense firefight erupts: Mac sacrifices himself in an attempt to protect them, and Evan is shot. Nicole, brave and resolute, musters every ounce of resolve to save Zoe and confront Evan, who taunts her with contempt and questions her strength.

In a climactic moment of resolve, Nicole hesitates under Evan’s glare, and he mocks her supposed weakness. But she will not yield.
