Siobhan, a dedicated PhD student, boards the fishing trawler *Niamh Cinn Óir*. Her main focus is to study the intricate behaviors of deep-sea fauna, and this expedition marks a significant step in her research career.

The crew, including Captain Freya and her husband Gerard, grapple with the profound loss of their daughter, Niamh. This personal tragedy adds an emotional weight to their perilous fishing journey.

Despite a warning from the Irish Coast Guard about entering an exclusion zone, Gerard decides to proceed with the expedition. This reckless choice sets the stage for the unfolding disaster.

Upon entering the exclusion zone, the crew encounters a mysterious object that resembles a shoal. The trawler halts unexpectedly as Omid uncovers strange breaches in the hull, leaking a peculiar blue-green slime.

Siobhan, equipped with diving gear, goes underwater to investigate the strange blue-green slime. She discovers that the attachment is not barnacles, but rather the tentacles of a colossal bioluminescent organism.

During an attempt to capture the creature, Johnny gets severely injured when the machinery catches his sleeve. The injury becomes contaminated by the mysterious slime, foreshadowing dire consequences.

In a desperate bid for help, Siobhan, Gerard, and Johnny row to another ship and discover the grisly scene of dead crew members and evidence of suicides. Gerard dismisses it as 'sea fever,' insisting they keep it a secret.

Upon returning to the *Niamh Cinn Óir*, the crew finds that the massive creature has released the boat. They experience a fruitful catch, providing a momentary lift in spirits amid the surrounding chaos.

Johnny, after sharing flirtations with Siobhan, decides to take a swim but unexpectedly falls victim to catastrophic blindness. The horrifying event marks a significant escalation in the unfolding nightmare.

As panic spreads within the crew, Sudi is bitten by parasitic creatures while showering, leading to another casualty. Siobhan and the others rush to investigate the water supply, discovering it has been compromised.

Siobhan experiments with a slime sample, attempting to eliminate larvae. Her attempts fail until she electrifies the trawler, which temporarily resolves the issue, but tension mounts as dissent within the crew grows.

The crew learns of Gerard’s infection, leading to a poignant farewell between him and Freya. In shock and despair, Gerard ultimately takes his own life, further traumatizing the already fragile group.
