Kuttan Thampuran suffers epileptic seizures from childhood, which make him rough and feared in the village. He endures medical attempts and social friction at home as his condition worsens. Despite being two years younger, Hari forms a deep, brotherly bond with Kuttan. He accompanies Kuttan through daily struggles, offering support and protection during seizures. The two grow up as inseparable figures in their village.

Hari's singing talent surfaces when he performs at the local temple. Thankamani, a dependent of Illam and a student of Bhagavathar, hears him and falls for his voice. This moment foreshadows a love triangle centered on music.

Hari's father Bhagavathar discourages his son's musical ambitions and pushes him toward a conventional professional degree. Hari wrestles with parental pressure and his own passion for music. The clash foreshadows the sacrifices and heartbreak to come.
