What Happens in Sandakozhi 2: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Sandakozhi 2 (2018) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

After the events of the first film, Balu [Vishal Krishna] returns to the Theni district after seven years in the USA to reunite with his family. He soon learns about his distant relative Pechi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar who is connected to a brutal tragedy: her husband was killed by villagers for killing a person from a lower caste. This violence triggers a grim retaliation, and Pechi ruthlessly eliminates all the male members of that lower-caste clan, except for Anbu, who is safeguarded by Balu’s chieftain father, Rajkiran (Durai Ayya).

As the dark past unfolds, Balu discovers that Pechi intends to disrupt the temple festival to target Anbu. Despite the danger, he resolves to protect Anbu, stepping into a quiet, determined guardianship. During the temple festival, Balu moves with stealth and force, saving Anbu and fending off attackers without drawing attention to his intervention.

Meanwhile, Balu crosses paths with Sembaruthi, Keerthy Suresh, whose activities remind him of Hema. Sembaruthi learns from Durai that Balu had relocated to the US after a tragedy—Hema’s death during a journey to Tirupati for their marriage. Despite this painful memory, Balu finds himself drawn to Sembaruthi, and Durai ultimately accepts their budding relationship.

In line with Durai’s wishes, Anbu’s long-desired UPSC dream becomes a reality, and Durai with Anbu depart for Anbu’s village to deliver the results. Pechi’s men attack Anbu, and Durai is seriously wounded in the skirmish. Balu rushes to Durai’s side, and with clandestine help, Durai receives treatment at home, keeping the incident away from prying villagers to prevent a riot that could derail the temple festival.

Balu makes a solemn vow to shield Anbu and ensure the festival concludes safely. The final confrontation takes place on an open ground, where Pechi confronts Balu and attempts to hurt Anbu. Balu, choosing mercy over violence, pleads with Pechi to walk away from Anbu. Pechi fights back, but a misstep causes her chain to catch in a Trishula, and her aruval sweeps toward her son’s neck. Balu intervenes just in time, stopping the blow and saving the child. Realizing the gravity of her actions, Pechi recognizes her mistake and decides to spare Anbu. With Durai recovering, he is reunited with Balu and Sembaruthi, and the family looks toward a fragile, hopeful future.
