The Briggs family reunites for Marina's funeral and to read her will, a scene fraught with unspoken history. Tyler senses the weight of long-buried tensions with Gus and the rest of the family. The gathering marks the beginning of a fragile attempt to confront unresolved pasts.

Tyler reveals his difficult backstory: abandoned by his father Gus as an infant and raised mostly by Marina. He has no real ties to Gus or his stepbrothers, Baker and Hardy, who are depicted as alcoholics and drug users. In a decisive move, he takes only the White 1972 Ford LTD and a photo album, leaving the house and six thousand dollars to Gus, and heads to the coast where Marina was born to seek solitude.

On the coast, Tyler befriends Jack and his friends Max, Andy, and Trip, and stays at the Higgins' beach house as a handyman. He also meets and falls in love with Sandy, Jack's sister who has just come home from college for the summer. A new sense of belonging begins to form in this tight-knit beach community.

Life is good for Tyler, with a sweet girlfriend, new friends, a job, and a place to live. He relishes this simplicity and the hope it brings, even as shadows from the past linger.

Gus, Teddy, Baker, and Hardy arrive in town, bringing a volatile element with them. They drink heavily, smoke marijuana, and snort cocaine, turning the peaceful beach into a minefield for Tyler and his friends. The quartet's presence signals that trouble is not far behind.

The brothers locate Sandy alone at the Higgins house and try to rape her, prompting Gus and Teddy to intervene. The assault is stopped, but the incident ignites a confrontation that pulls Jack into the conflict. This moment begins the physical feud that will threaten everyone involved.

After hearing what happened, Jack and his circle go to the motel to confront Gus and Teddy while they are drunk. Jack beats them severely, leaving them battered and unconscious. The violent exchange escalates the feud, setting the stage for revenge.

The next day, Baker and Hardy ambush Jack on the beach with the intent to kill him. Trip intervenes with his homemade baseball bat, disrupting the assault. The town's tensions reach a boiling point as violence becomes personal and deadly.

Baker and Hardy kidnap and torture Jack's friend Max, while Jack and Andy attempt a rescue. They themselves are captured and forced to walk the plank on the pier by the Pacific Ocean. The ploy demonstrates how far the feud has spiraled beyond any reasonable boundaries.

Jack and Andy fight back on the pier, overpowering the two brothers and tossing them into the water. Baker and Hardy drown due to their drunken state and inability to swim. The deaths close a brutal chapter but leave the survivors to reckon with the consequences.

Gus, enraged by his sons' deaths, goes in search of Jack. Outside the motel, Jack confronts Gus with Sandy trying to stop him, and Gus shoots Jack in the leg before Tyler intervenes to subdue his father. The act underscores how violence has fractured the family beyond repair.

Tyler tells Gus that killing Jack won't bring back Baker and Hardy and that it will ruin his own life. He and Sandy decide to leave together to start a more peaceful life. The film ends with Jack and Gus's fates left uncertain, implying the cost of violence remains unresolved.
