Akash works a steady, routine job in Mumbai, where days blur into one another until a personal call shakes him out of the grind: his grandfather’s health is worsening. He leaves the city and returns to his native town, Tanakpur, with a heavy heart and a business proposal to sell his grandfather’s studio. The visit is charged with nostalgia, and as he wanders the familiar space one last time, the film slips into a long memory loop.

In the past, a young Akash lives with his parents and his grandfather, a kind-hearted photographer who sees more in life than others might. He foretells that Akash will meet a girl who lives exactly 500 steps away from the studio, and that their love will endure even if fate seems to deny them a shared life. The boy counts exactly 500 steps and discovers a girl who is older than him, leaving him feeling quietly disappointed for a moment that will echo later in his life. In high school, his heart shifts toward Shruti, but he leaves her behind to pursue higher studies in Mumbai, a choice that shatters Shruti and tests the bounds of their once affectionate bond. Shruti struggles to accept his abrupt departure after their long, tender relationship.

Back in the present, Dadu looms large in Akash’s mind as he tries to reconnect with Shruti, but his search yields little. A sudden professional setback arrives when his boss fires him, pushing him to sprint back to the frayed edges of his career and to land a decisive contract that could save his job. The search for stability leads him to Canada, where he hopes to meet Mrs. Pablo, the investor’s wife who is now separated from her husband. At a yoga camp there, Akash befriends Mrs. Pablo and learns her real name is Akanksha, a revelation that twists his plan into something more complicated. It’s there that he crosses paths with Shruti again, who carries herself with a carefree, almost oblivious air and doesn’t recognize him at first.

In a bid to secure the contract, Akash pretends to be in love with Akanksha, but the deception gives way to a genuine rekindling of feeling with Shruti during a shared task at the camp. The two rediscover what they once had—and they fall into each other’s arms. Yet the truth of Akanksha’s identity intertwines with their past, revealing that the tall girl Akash met in childhood is the same Akanksha who stands before him now. The awakening is bittersweet: Shruti admits she cannot remain with him, and his heart aches with the realization that their chance has been forever altered.

Determined to understand Shruti’s rejection, Akash enlists Akanksha’s aid and discovers a painful truth: Shruti is living with a rare heart condition and requires a heart transplant to survive. She asks him to choose a life with her, to savor the moments they never had, even if they must imagine them together as they age. The couple embraces a densely packed sequence of imagined milestones—being newlyweds, growing old together—and their bond deepens through those days of shared life. When the time comes to return to reality, Akash accepts that his path with Shruti cannot remain untested forever.

Months pass, and Shruti’s hospital story takes a hopeful turn: a donor is found, and her transplant proceeds. She travels to the city to find Akash, only to discover his phone is off and that she cannot reach him. She wanders until a voice note from Akash surfaces, guiding her toward him. In a poignant moment near her own home, her heart suddenly begins to beat faster, a sign that Akash’s heart now resides within her body. The truth crystallizes—Akash has died, his love living on in Shruti through the transplanted heart. Grief overwhelms her, yet she channels her sorrow into commemorating the man who gave her life.

In the studio once more, Shruti places a piece of wood where “Akash loves Shruti” was once written during childhood, a message that now holds the weight of their shared history. The film closes with a final image of Akash’s grandfather, captured by Shruti in the studio, a quiet testament to love, memory, and the irrevocable choices that carved their paths.
