Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken

The story opens with the voice of the Queen of Krakens, Jane Fonda, who shares a differing perspective about krakens. Contrary to popular belief, she reveals that krakens are actually formidable warriors of the ocean, not terrifying monsters.

In the seaside town of Oceanside, we are introduced to Ruby Gillman, a young kraken living among humans. She resides with her family — her mother Agatha, father Arthur, younger brother Sam, and their pet squid Nessie.

Ruby's mother, Agatha, is very protective and forbids her from going near the water. This restriction causes Ruby to miss a number of special moments, particularly affecting her teenage social life.

Ruby desperately wants to ask her crush, Connor, to the school prom held on a boat. With encouragement from her friends, she prepares a big promposal to make an impression on him.
