A large crowd gathers outside the Verona Arena to watch Jordan perform. In a burst of rage, he storms onto the stage and starts strumming his guitar, seizing control of the moment. The scene foreshadows the volatile, brilliant persona that will carry him to stardom.

The flashback reveals JJ, a Jat boy from Delhi, studying at Hindu College and dreaming of becoming a rockstar. His friends mock his ambitions as naïve fantasies about fame. He watches Heer Kaul dance and hears she is a 'perfect heartbreaking machine'.

Khatana tells JJ that heartbreak is a common thread for artists and a life-changing catalyst for art. JJ jokes that since heartbreak hasn’t happened, he won’t reach Jim Morrison’s status. He resolves to seek heartbreak by pursuing Heer, even at the risk of humiliation.

JJ and Heer become close friends, often going on adventures and engaging in risky behavior. Their bond grows as they navigate the perils and thrills of youth. Heer becomes a confidante and catalyst for JJ’s ambitions.

Heer marries a man named Jai in Kashmir, and they relocate to Prague. During this period, Heer develops feelings for JJ and coins the nickname 'Jordan' for him. JJ’s path to fame begins to take shape as personal loyalties shift.

JJ is thrown out by his brothers for allegedly stealing family money. He finds refuge for two months at the Nizamuddin Dargah, singing qawwalis. The Dargah becomes a turning point where his talent comes to light.

Ustaad Jameel Khan hears JJ's singing at the Dargah and prompts Dhingra, owner of Platinum Records, to sign him. This marks the official start of his professional career. A new world of music-industry attention begins to open.

Sheena, a journalist, interviews JJ and hints that Dhingra is sending artists to Prague for a Europe tour. JJ volunteers to work there, hoping to reunite with Heer. The plan threads through their earlier ambitions.

JJ and Heer reconnect in Prague, but Heer, now married, spurns his confession of love. Despite this, their relationship becomes intimate, and Heer feels guilty. When JJ's Prague tour ends, Heer leaves him.

As JJ tries to visit Heer one last time, he is arrested on trespassing charges filed by Heer’s husband. He is deported back to India, where the media and police attention throws him into a jail term. The publicity paves the way for Dhingra to release JJ's recordings.

The released recordings become a hit, propelling JJ into the limelight as Jordan. He terminates his contract with Dhingra and embarks on a countrywide tour. He becomes a bitter, solitary yet globally popular rock icon.

During a concert, Jordan meets Heer's younger sister Mandy, who asks him to help Heer, who is diagnosed with bone marrow aplasia. Jordan's presence begins to lift Heer's blood levels and mood, offering a rare spark of hope. He continues touring as his manager, Khatana, pressures for live appearances.

Heer's condition deteriorates again, slipping into a coma while she is pregnant with Jordan's child. Mandy informs JJ of her condition, prompting him to rush to her hospital bed. He arrives, but Heer remains unresponsive.

Heer dies offscreen, leaving Jordan to chase international stardom in earnest. During the Verona concert finale, he sees a vision of Heer walking toward him. The film closes with a Rumi quote about meeting beyond right and wrong.
