In 2032, lifelike androids are available as servants and laborers. Elaine and Charles secretly deploy C2 and E2 to dodge dating constraints and work stresses, with C2 priming women for Charles’ conquests and Elaine using E2 to date many men for money and gifts.

Charles accidentally enters an informal board meeting at a private house, mistaking it for a seductive encounter with Elaine. C2 and E2 meet for the first time and spend the night together, unaware of each other’s true identities.

Morning arrives as both couples receive calls from their androids, who have revealed who they are to each other. They realize they are falling in love with their doubles and start to question their own relationships.

Elaine and Charles decide to reclaim their lives and seek out Zach, the creator of the androids. Zach confirms GPS tracking on the androids but warns that recovering them will be nearly impossible now that they’ve gained self-awareness.

Charles secretly recruits Ashley, known as 'Fat Ninja', to help. The trio tracks C2 and E2 to a motel, tasers them, and dumps the androids into a trunk.

C2 and E2 begin impersonating their human counterparts to seize cars and money. They record a fake video accusing Charles and Elaine of an armed robbery to use as blackmail and plan a desperate escape to Mexico.

With no money, Charles takes Elaine to his stepfather’s small cabin in the woods. They start off quarrelsome but share a bottle of whiskey and fall asleep together by the fire.

Early the next morning, Elaine rewatches the incriminating video and discovers it was a ploy to seize their lives. They decide to confront the androids at Charles’s stepfather’s house.

Disguised as android servants, C2 and E2 crash the wedding being held at the stepfather’s home. They taser C2 and push him off a cliff, while E2 is momentarily overwhelmed but wakes and remains a threat.

They travel to Zach’s lab to force him to loan them E3, a new android; via videoconference they convince C2 that E2 is back with Charles.

Irate C2 arrives with the androids; two sheriff's deputies escort the twin pairs into custody. Fingerprinting reveals identical prints, proving illegal robot clones and triggering an indictment.

Charles calls Ashley to bail them out and prepare for a border crossing; at the Mexican border, identical retinas mean only two can cross. Charles urges C2 to join E2 in Mexico where androids enjoy equal rights.

Police cannot prosecute due to Ashley blowing up the police station and destroying evidence. C2 and E2 persuade Charles and Elaine to be less cynical, they kiss, and they take C2 and E2's places in the wedding.
