Two workers digging beneath the Saint Jean André Church in Paris uncover a hidden chamber filled with valuable artifacts, triggering a sequence of events that mix rumor, doubt, and danger. Encouraged by his friend Carol Beckham, the once-respected but now discredited Professor Jack Randall returns to the site to investigate what lies beneath. As night falls, they slip into the chamber and, while Carol carefully collects relics, Jack documents everything on his camera.

Suddenly, a winged monster emerges from the shadows, and the pair flee in a panic. Jack’s camera is damaged in the chaos, but the danger is far from over. A colossal stone collapses onto his car at the bar, and back at his boarding house, Carol is confronted by the same terrifying creature and is brutally killed in her apartment, beheaded by a gargoyle.

The next morning, Jack identifies Carol’s body and finds himself the prime suspect in a string of murders, pursued by the determined Inspector Gibert. Desperate for answers, he seeks out the sensationalist reporter Nicole Ricard and hands over the damaged tape to her cameraman, Walsh. When Walsh recovers the footage, albeit badly formed, Nicole and Walsh realize that Jack did not hallucinate the extraordinary events; a gargoyle really stalked them.

With the evidence mounting, the trio — Jack, Nicole, and Walsh — decide to return to the church to press deeper into the mystery, hoping to separate truth from fear and to uncover what those hidden artifacts truly signify. Their investigation promises to challenge everything they thought they knew about myth, science, and the shadows lurking beneath Paris.

Q1

Why was Professor Jack Randall discredited before the events of the movie?

A.

Professor Jack Randall was once a respected academic, but he became discredited after publishing a book about gargoyles. The expert community rejected his claims about gargoyles being real, treating his work as pseudoscience. Despite being dismissed by the academic establishment, Jack remained convinced there was truth to his research, which is why he agrees to investigate the church site when his friend Carol Beckham urges him to go.

Q2

How did the workers release the gargoyle beneath the church?

A.

Two workers were digging beneath the Saint Jean André Church in Paris when they inadvertently uncovered a hidden chamber filled with valuable artifacts. Their excavation disturbed whatever was sealed within that chamber, allowing the gargoyle to escape. The workers were among the first victims beheaded by the creature.

Q3

Why did Jack Randall become the prime suspect in the murders?

A.

Jack became the prime suspect because he was the last person seen with Carol Beckham before she was killed, and he had a powerful motive in the eyes of Inspector Gibert, Carol had encouraged him to investigate the church, and Jack had recently been associated with her. Additionally, Jack had no concrete evidence to support his story about a gargoyle, making his claims about a monster seem like a cover for murder.

Q4

How did the gargoyle get into Carol's apartment to kill her?

A.

The gargoyle is depicted as a winged creature that can fly and move through urban environments. While the exact method is not detailed, the creature managed to reach Carol's apartment independently, suggesting it can navigate buildings and access upper floors. The attack was brutal and resulted in Carol being beheaded.

The gargoyle's ability to fly and stalk its victims was demonstrated when it attacked Jack and Carol in the church chamber, foreshadowing its capacity to reach any location.

Q5

How was Jack's damaged camera footage recovered and proven to be real?

A.

Jack gave his broken camera to Nicole Ricard's cameraman, Walsh, who worked to recover the footage despite the damage. Walsh managed to salvage the recordings, producing badly formed but usable footage. When Nicole and Walsh viewed the recovered clips, they confirmed that Jack had not hallucinated, a real gargoyle had attacked them.

Earlier in the film, Jack's camera is damaged during the chaotic escape from the gargoyle, setting up the eventual recovery of the footage as crucial evidence.

Q6

What was in the hidden chamber beneath the Saint Jean André Church?

A.

The hidden chamber beneath the Saint Jean André Church contained valuable artifacts and objects that the workers began collecting, attracted by their worth. The chamber also housed the gargoyle itself, which emerged from the shadows once the site was disturbed. The artifacts suggest the church had a connection to the gargoyle's origins or history.

Q7

Why did the gargoyle behead its victims?

A.

The gargoyle's behavior appears to be predatory and violent by nature. The film establishes that the creature beheaded those who took her eggs and others who merely encountered the creature. This brutal method of killing is consistent with the gargoyle's nature as a monster and serves to heighten the horror of the film.

Q8

Why did Carol Beckham accompany Jack to investigate the church site?

A.

Carol Beckham was Jack's friend who encouraged him to go check the church site despite his discredited status. She accompanied him on the nighttime infiltration, potentially out of curiosity, loyalty, or a desire to help Jack prove his theories were valid. Her decision to join him proved fatal when the gargoyle attacked.

Q9

What caused the stone to fall onto Jack's car at the bar?

A.

While at a bar seeking safety after the initial gargoyle attack, Jack's car was struck by a huge falling stone. The incident appears to be another manifestation of the gargoyle's supernatural threat, demonstrating that the creature's influence extended beyond the church site and could reach them anywhere in Paris.

Q10

Why did Inspector Gibert focus on Jack rather than investigating the gargoyle?

A.

Inspector Gibert pursued Jack as his prime suspect because from a law enforcement perspective, Jack had the most obvious connection to the victims and the strongest apparent motive. Jack's story about a gargoyle seemed like an implausible cover story, so the inspector focused on building a conventional murder case rather than pursuing the supernatural explanation.

Q11

Why did reporter Nicole Ricard believe Jack's story about the gargoyle?

A.

Nicole Ricard was a sensationalist newspaper reporter always seeking compelling stories. When Walsh recovered the footage showing the gargoyle, she had tangible visual evidence that contradicted the official narrative. The damaged but visible footage proved Jack was not hallucinating and that a real creature was involved, giving her the sensational story she wanted.

Q12

Why did Jack, Nicole, and Walsh decide to return to the church?

A.

After the footage was recovered and confirmed the gargoyle's existence, the three formed an alliance to return to the church and investigate further. Their goal was to uncover the source of the gargoyles and understand what the hidden artifacts signified. The decision marked a shift from survival mode to active investigation, setting up the next phase of the story.
