A traveling carnival receives a large, winged creature, and the tension rises quickly when Ringmaster Cap kills the man who sold him the beast before he and his assistant Quinn tranquilize it with darts. This ominous delivery sets off a chain of uneasy events that pulls the carnival into a fight for survival and justice, all under the shadow of a paranoid pastor who wants answers and vengeance.

Sheriff Atlas arrives to investigate Cap’s carnival, drawn by the pastor’s relentless questions and a sense that something unnatural lurks behind the bright lights and cheerful tunes. The opening show unfolds with a mood of uneasy curiosity, but the audience’s awe turns to fear when the beast proves far more dangerous than anyone anticipated. Taylor, the pastor’s son, and his friend Jesse are unimpressed and fling peanuts at the captive creature, provoking it into a furious breakout that sends the carnival into chaos and forces the animal into the surrounding woods.

That night, Taylor and Jesse take shelter in an old barn deep in the forest. A dog, fed on a severed foot, barks as the beast closes in, revealing itself to the frightened duo. The pursuit is brutal: the dog is killed, the two boys are separated, and Taylor is ultimately slain while Jesse manages to escape, hiding in an old car as the night sounds fade into silence. The next day, Atlas and his deputy discover the grisly scene near the river—the man who sold the beast is found cut rather than mauled, a clue that points to homicide and a creature with a disturbing method of attack.

Seeking answers, Atlas visits the psychic carnie Samara, Samara whose abilities offer a different kind of truth. She reveals the creature’s origins and the mythology behind it: the Jersey Devil, the monstrous thirteenth child of Mrs. Leeds, whose aggression seems fueled by the scent and taste of blood. The revelation reframes the fear surrounding the carnival and raises the stakes for everyone involved. Back on the road, Jesse and his mother are driving through the forest when the beast launches another vicious attack, continuing a harrowing pattern of loss.

In response, Atlas organizes a hunting party to pursue the creature and bring it down or capture it alive according to strategic aims. Cap and Quinn push forward with their own plan to recapture the beast, motivated by a different endgame: Cap wants to deliver it alive to a client, while Atlas seeks accountability and safety for the people who work at the carnival. The pursuit leads to tense clashes and cunning traps, with more tranquilizers and a smirk of danger lingering in the air. In a brutal turn, Cap tranquilizes Atlas’s deputy and Quinn stabs him to attract the beast with the blood scent; the deputy fires at the approaching creature, the beast retreats, and the deputy dies from his wounds.

The creature then breaches Cap’s carnival, claiming a life or two before Atlas can intervene. Cap uses upgraded darts to knock the beast out, a moment that promises control but only heightens the peril to the carnival’s fragile community. Cap returns to the carnival to face consequences and is detained by Atlas, who uncovers part of a dart lodged in the deputy’s back. The pastor, hungry for revenge against both the beast and the carnival, storms the station, silences Atlas, and begins a brutal plan to finish Cap by removing his tongue. Yet the creature, sensing blood, arrives at the police station and kills Cap in a savage encounter. The pastor fights back, stabbing the beast with two darts to “knock it out” again, but the plan to weaponize the monster against the carnival triggers a new wave of carnage. With the beast presumed dead, they load its body onto a truck and set the carnival ablaze, wiping out many workers in the process. The beast, however, awakens and retaliates, ending the pastor’s vengeful spree.

Atlas regains consciousness and, driven by a need to rescue Samara, frees himself and rushes toward the burning carnival. The chase that follows forces the two into a brutal, intimate confrontation: the beast corners them, Atlas loses his gun, and the pair become separated in the inferno. Samara is chased toward a Ferris wheel, where a carnie dies in a valiant but failed attempt to stop the animal. In a dramatic finale, Atlas rams the beast with a car, pinning it against the Ferris wheel as the structure collapses. The monster dies in the wreck, but Atlas sustains fatal injuries in the process, sealing his sacrifice with the creature’s end.

Throughout, the carnival’s world is depicted as a fragile community caught between spectacle and horror, a place where human fear, superstition, and survival collide in a brutal struggle. The story threads together the carnival’s performers, the relentless pursuit of a creature born of legend, and a sheriff whose resolve — even at the cost of his own life — aims to protect the living and honor those who did not survive the beast’s rampage. The final image lingers on the cost of courage in a town where the bright lights can obscure a very dark truth, and where a lone sacrifice can still illuminate the path to justice.
