War prisoners labor tirelessly to build a bridge over Thailand’s River Kwai, only for an American bomber to smash it just as it’s finished. Camp commander Tanaka orders executions as a warning, but Major Harada arrives with orders to ship the healthiest men to Japan by rail and sea. The convoy faces a perilous trek under constant Allied surveillance of the railways and the seas.
