During the early years of World II, Chinese guerrillas battle the Japanese in Burma to protect the Allied supply line. Schoolteacher Lin Yang from Chongqing is recruited after a student is killed in an air raid, joining a hazardous mission. While traveling the Burma Road with Allied representatives, a bridge collapse forces a night stay at a monastery, where they watch a Japanese bombing of a convoy and begin to suspect an infiltrator among their group.
