A former partisan turned political activist travels to Slovenia’s Styria region to purchase wheat from local peasants and persuade them to join a farming collective. His apparent triumph stems from blackmail rather than genuine persuasion, and a failed romance leaves him unbalanced, prompting him to murder an innocent man while carrying out his so‑called social mission.
