In present-day Kolkata, Swarnaja works as a hard-working radio jockey known for her kind nature. She was brought up by her grandmother after her mother's suicide and lives with their domestic helper and Babai, a close, sibling-like bond. Her rare Rh-null blood makes her uniquely significant in the story.

During a yoga session, on medical advice, Swarnaja meets Shammo Sengupta, who claims to be an heir to a gemstone business. They are drawn to each other, and a romance begins to develop.

Swarnaja soon learns Shammo is already married, a fact he had hidden from her. Devastated, she ends the relationship but remains wary of his true motives.

Shammo's wife Kheya reaches out for a meeting and explains she needs a wheelchair after a pelvic fracture. The encounter leads to an unusual friendship between the two women, with Swarnaja choosing to help.

Kheya reveals she isn't against Swarnaja and Shammo's relationship, and Swarnaja volunteers to carry the couple's baby as a surrogate. Despite warnings from her grandmother and Dr Burman, Swarnaja grows deeply attached to the newborn, whom she dubs Ghenturam.

On the day the baby was to be taken away, Swarnaja discovers that the baby and the couple have vanished. Shammo calls to say they left early to avoid troubling anyone, plunging Swarnaja into confusion and fear.

A day later, news reports that Dr Burman has died unnaturally, shaking the family. Swarnaja struggles to cope with both the loss and the missing child while trying to focus on work.

Five years flash by; a TV news broadcast links the death of a woman named Ankita Sen to a child trafficking racket. The deceased is identified as Kheya, prompting Swarnaja and Babai to report to the police.

Police investigations reveal that Shammo and Kheya are aliases for Sushil and Rabeya and that they may be part of an international surrogacy ring. Forged documents and patterns of the crime suggest trafficking rather than kidnapping.

A masked man infiltrates Swarnaja's home at night, attempting an injection before Babai intervenes and is knocked unconscious. Swarnaja notices a distinctive tattoo on the intruder's hand that matches the yoga instructor from earlier sessions.

Following the lead, investigators learn the instructor worked for Dr Burman and helped harvest Swarnaja's rare blood for sale. The instructor concedes the child is alive and that Sushil has not yet captured him.

Swarnaja and the police search blood bank registers and locate an orphanage; yet Sushil has already taken Porag by posing as a prospective parent. The pursuit intensifies as they close in.

Police corner Sushil and another accomplice at a construction site; in the ensuing chase, Babai dies while trying to protect Porag. Porag is injured but survives.

Grieving but resolute, Swarnaja visits the orphanage to seek custody of Porag. The director reveals Dr Burman had handed the infant to the home and asked for secrecy. Eventually Porag agrees to go with Swarnaja.

Porag is welcomed as Swarnaja's son, and she embraces him as her own, marking the end of the journey from surrogate to mother.
