Rat Race

Donald Sinclair, the owner of The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, creates an exciting new game for high rollers. He hides $2 million in cash in a locker at a train station in Silver City, New Mexico, and invites winners to race for it.

Six winners of the special tokens are assembled and informed about the hidden money. Each winner receives a key to the locker, setting the stage for a no-holds-barred competition to reach Silver City first.

Scheming twins Duane and Blaine Cody decide to split up to improve their chances of winning. They attempt to create a duplicate key, but their plans are thwarted when a locksmith overhears them and escapes with the key.

The twins chase the locksmith, who is trying to flee in a hot air balloon. After stealing back the key, they leave the locksmith hanging from the balloon with a confused cow as their only company.

Merrill and her mother Vera lose their car due to an encounter with a crazed squirrel owner. In a desperate move, they steal a rocket car and race across the desert, only to run out of fuel and end up on a bus full of mental patients.

Owen Templeton finds himself stranded in the desert after a vengeful cab driver abandons him. He manages to board a coach filled with women headed to an I Love Lucy convention by disguising himself as their driver.

Randy and the Pear family visit a museum but steal Adolf Hitler's Mercedes after their car gets cut off. Unfortunately, Randy unknowingly insults a biker gang which leads to a disastrous chain of events.

Attorney Nick Schaffer initially refuses to join the race until he meets helicopter pilot Tracy Faucet. She offers him a ride to Silver City, initiating a series of comical misadventures along the way.

Enrico Pollini, the eccentric Italian tourist, falls asleep at the start of the race and awakens later without any sense of direction. He gets a ride from an ambulance driver, but chaos ensues when a heart he is transporting escapes.

All the racers eventually gather in Silver City, but Enrico arrives at the train station first only to fall asleep again. Chaos follows as Sinclair's assistant attempts to steal the money bag amid the confusion.

After a series of mishaps, the charade leads to a crash involving the locksmith and Sinclair's assistant. In a twist of fate, the racers follow a hot air balloon that has the money bag, leading them to a charity concert.

The various racers end up at a charity concert hosted by Smash Mouth. In a moment of unity, they decide to donate the money to charity, taking a stand against Sinclair's gambling scheme.

Nick forces Sinclair and the wealthy gamblers to pay double the prize money intended for the race. The event culminates in an unexpected resolution, bringing everyone together for a cause greater than their greed.
