Based on true events, this crime drama follows Lo Lieh’s destitute gas‑station employee, tormented by his cruel boss who boasts he can replace workers instantly. Joined by three equally desperate friends, they devise a kidnapping and blackmail scheme. The film concentrates on the kidnappers’ psychological motives, keeping law‑enforcement figures peripheral and largely faceless.
