Laura James, a communications expert, decodes unusual signals and learns an alien ambassador is trying to reach Earth. A video log reveals the alien starship has crash-landed on Mars, shifting the mission from reconnaissance to rescue. The discovery confirms a real extraterrestrial presence and spurs an international response.

The Oceano crew—Laura, Anders, and Paul—launch toward Mars. Their voyage passes through a spectacular bright sunburst, and the ship sustains some damage but presses on toward the red planet. The mission evolves from signal monitoring to locating the downed craft.

On arrival near Mars, they locate a wreck with a single dead alien aboard. Dr. Farraday suggests that any surviving crew may have been rescued, making an observation satellite essential to track any rescue vehicle. With this in mind, the team continues the search and plans for a follow-up mission.

Laura's fiancé Allan and fellow astronaut Tony volunteer for the additional mission, heading out on Meteor to Phobos to deploy the observation satellite. They prepare for a risky two-seat return, aware that only one of them may come back with the device. The venture foreshadows the dangers ahead for the crew.

On Phobos, Tony uncovers an alien spacecraft and, with Allan, enters to find an unconscious but alive female alien. With only two seats available for the return journey, they flip a coin—Allan stays behind while Tony returns to the Oceano. The choice sets up a tense dynamic as the mission continues.

Back aboard the Oceano, the alien awakens and is initially cautious, then openly hostile toward Laura. She refuses to eat and will not allow Anders to take a blood sample, signaling a dangerous dependence on an unknown physiology. The crew grows uneasy as the alien's presence unsettles them.

That night, Paul keeps watch while the alien attacks and kills him, draining his blood after first hypnotizing him. The remaining crew are forced to sustain her life by drawing blood from the ship's plasma supply. The crisis reveals the deadly stakes for everyone aboard.

When the plasma runs dry, she kills Anders, leaving Laura and Allan as the last two humans aboard. The ship becomes increasingly dangerous as fear and survival instincts take over. Tension spikes as the survivors realize they may be hunted by the alien in their own ship.

The alien attacks Allan, but Laura intervenes. In a brutal struggle, Laura scratches the alien, who screams in terror and bleeds out, dying soon after.

With the immediate danger over, Laura and Allan uncover alien eggs hidden aboard the ship. Allan suggests the alien may have been royalty—a queen—hinted by human-like hemophilia patterns tied to royal inbreeding, and that Earth could be a destination to breed. The discovery implies a planned, long-term presence rather than an isolated incident.

Earth authorities opt to study the alien eggs instead of destroying them, a decision Allan had urged. The choice leaves the door open to future encounters and scientific inquiry rather than immediate destruction.
