Queen of the Mob

Ma Webster rules her mob with an iron hand, tightly controlling the planning of every robbery. She dominates her sons Eddie, Charlie, and Tom, while keeping George apart as an outsider. The gang operates primarily out of Centre City.

Bert, the lawful son, urges Ma and the brothers to lay low and get out of town to avoid arrest. His legal caution clashes with the others' reckless ambition. The warning foreshadows the looming police crackdown.

Ma joins Eddie, Charlie, Tom, and George to rob the Centre City bank on Christmas Eve. The heist marks a high point of the family's criminal enterprise, with meticulous planning and heated bravado. After this, the gang sets off on a wider crime spree.

The gang tours several states, amassing cash including a $300,000 ransom. They meet a shady intermediary, Pan, to swap for unmarked bills. They kill Pan after pocketing $100,000, unaware the FBI already has a registry of the bills.

FBI agents realize the bills Pan held and track the gang using the serial numbers. The hunt intensifies as the fugitives try to stay ahead of federal pursuers. The case shifts from local to national pursuit.

Langham and Waring tail the gang to a small southern town where Ma hides in plain sight as a socialite. The gang flees from the agents and stretches their hideouts in cheap hotels across the country. The net tightens as investigators close in.

During a respite, Ma travels back to Centre City to see Bert and his newborn baby, a rare moment of personal contact amid the fugitive life. The rest of the gang remains in flux, planning another score. The tension between family bonds and criminal loyalty grows.

While Ma is away, the gang attempts another robbery on a store but fails. Charlie is shot dead and Tom is arrested as a result. The family begins to fracture under pressure from law enforcement.

Tom pleads guilty after Bert defends him in court and agrees to return on his own to the city where the kidnapping occurred. The gang drifts apart; George tries to leave but Ma and Eddie kill him, sealing a split in the group.

Ma and Eddie hire Stitch Torey and his men to help Tom escape from custody, but the attempt fails and most of Stitch's gang is killed. The failed jailbreak accelerates the downfall of the original crew.

Ma and Eddie shrink their footprint: Eddie works in a cannery and Ma becomes a neighborly presence in town. Yet Eddie grows restless and reckless, seeking a new score. The tension between safety and greed continues to simmer.

On Christmas Eve, federal agents storm Ma and Eddie's home in a deadly shoot-out; Eddie is killed while Ma ultimately surrenders to the police. The long pursuit ends with Ma Webster in custody and the collapse of the clan's criminal empire.
