As the once-joyful couple Richard (Pierce Brosnan) and Kate (Emma Thompson) navigate the complexities of life after their divorce, their situation takes a drastic turn that upends everything. The sale of Richard’s company to the cold-hearted French businessman Vincent (Laurent Lafitte) leads to the shocking loss of their pension plan, leaving them stranded and scrambling for solutions. With no options left, they set out on a risky adventure to Paris to confront Vincent, only to find him unmoved by their desperation.
Vincent’s upcoming wedding to the stunning Manon (Louise Bourgoin) becomes the spark for Richard and Kate’s daring scheme to regain their resources. Discovering that Vincent had gifted Manon a breathtaking diamond valued at over $10 million, they devise a plan to swap the jewel for a fake, hoping to reclaim what was taken from them.
As Richard and Kate follow Vincent and Manon to the scenic south of France, they enlist help from their friends Jerry and Penelope, adopting the personas of exuberant Texans to infiltrate the wedding festivities. The operation unfolds with excitement, but just when they are ready to make their move, Kate unexpectedly bonds with Manon during a lively beach party.
In a twist of fate, Manon’s candid admission about her wedding doubts compels Richard and Kate to act quickly. However, it also opens the door for an unplanned marriage counseling session between Kate and Manon. Surprisingly, after realizing their intentions, Manon willingly offers the diamond, giving Richard and Kate a timely escape from their financial woes.
Yet, danger looms as Vincent grows suspicious of their actions and Jerry and Penelope must think on their feet to keep the gemstone safe, even resorting to swallowing it in a comical panic. Just as Richard and Kate find themselves on the edge of calamity in a runaway van headed for the cliff, Manon swoops in to assist. This timely intervention allows Kate to communicate with their backup team, who arrive by boat.
With the diamond sold for an astonishing $15 million to Jerry’s dubious contact, Richard and Kate decide to invest in a well-deserved vacation, while Jerry and Penelope choose to donate their share to Richard’s ex-colleagues. As they set sail into new adventures, Richard and Kate can’t shake the feeling of anticipation for the surprises that lie ahead.
