Yuvraj Vijay Singh [Salman Khan] is the wealthy crown prince of Pritampur, poised to be crowned king and betrothed to Rajkumari Maithili Devi [Sonam Kapoor Ahuja], a princess from the neighboring kingdom of Devgarh. Yet Vijay’s stiff, stubborn nature strains his relation with Maithili and sparks friction with his siblings. His two powerful half-sisters, Rajkumari Chandrika [Swara Bhasker] and Rajkumari Radhika [Lata Sabharwal], live apart in a rented bungalow outside the palace. Chandrika, who works as an accounts head in a municipal school, has filed a case against Vijay for a share in the royal property, arguing that their late king’s mistress—Maithili’s mother—was wronged by the Queen. Chandrika and Maithili, who were close friends during school, see their relationship tested by the engagement, while Vijay’s half-brother Yuvraj Ajay Singh [Neil Nitin Mukesh] harbors vengeance and plots to seize the throne with the help of his manager Chirag Singh [Arman Kohli] and Vijay’s secretary Sameera [Samaira Rao]. Chirag subtly guides Ajay while simultaneously betraying him.
Vijay barely survives an assassination scheme orchestrated by Ajay and Chirag and is severely wounded, hidden away in a secret chamber tended by two doctors [S M Zaheer]. The royal danger unsettles the palace, and the kingdom quietly holds its breath as the conspirators circle closer.
Enter Prem Raghuvanshi aka Prem Dilwale, a vivacious love guru and lively stage actor who becomes the story’s surprising hinge. Prem [Salman Khan], accompanied by his loyal friend Kanhaiya [Deepak Dobriyal], arrives in Pritampur and is spotted at a bus stop by the palace Security Head, Sanjay [Sanjay Mishra], who brings him to Diwan Sahab [Anupam Kher]. Diwan, recognizing the eerie likeness between Prem and Vijay, asks Prem to step into Vijay’s shoes while the prince lies in a coma. Prem’s easy charm and genuine care begin to win Maithili over, who had feared a future tethered to a rigid, political alliance. Unwittingly, Prem’s warmth stirs a similar attraction in Maithili, who finds herself drawn to the man who embodies an entirely different, gentler version of the crown prince.
As Prem moves through the palace, he seeks to heal rifts within Vijay’s family. He reaches out to Chandrika [Swara Bhasker] and Radhika [Lata Sabharwal], the half-sisters who once pursued a claim to the throne, and—with Maithili’s encouragement—he drafts and presents legal documents that vow to transfer portions of the royal property to them. Their hearts soften, and the sisters begin to reconsider their stance, choosing reconciliation over rivalry rather than severing their claim. It’s a delicate balance, but Prem’s sincerity undercuts the bitterness that had divided the family.
Meanwhile, Ajay and Chirag uncover Prem’s true identity: he is not Vijay. They kidnap the real Vijay to prevent Prem from continuing the deception, and Chirag—ever the schemer—decides to double-cross Ajay, freeing Vijay and feeding Ajay misleading information to pit the two men against Prem. The situation erupts into a tense confrontation, culminating in a sword fight where Prem and Kanhaiya intervene to restore order. Chirag attempts to shoot them but falls to his death, and Ajay comes to regret his misdeeds as Vijay makes amends with his brother.
The truth about Prem’s identity shatters Maithili’s initial trust and leaves her devastated when Prem departs to return home. Yet the palace’s colors brighten again as the royal family regroups. In a final, hopeful turn, Maithili and Prem—now aware of each other’s truths—meet once more as a united pair. The family travels to Prem’s home where they come together to celebrate a union that binds Prem and Maithili, and also cements the bonds with Kanhaiya and Sameera, who stand beside them as part of the newly formed, reconciled court. In this long, heartfelt journey, loyalty, forgiveness, and the enduring power of love echo through the halls of Pritampur, sealing a future where the throne rests on unity rather than division.
